Copper Foil Panels
For years my wife had been wanting to buy one of these lovely (and pretty expensive) copper foil works each time we visited a particular gallery in Southwold. I objected on the grounds that I felt I could make something similar myself but never actually got round to doing it. Things came to a head this year and I made a passable copy of the fields and landscape created by Naomi Brangwyn (who I must credit for the design).
I felt however that the magic of these things comes from minimising the amount of glass used thereby leaving the viewer with a puzzlement about how the finished work holds itself together - hence the seascape and the flowers which my own designs.

If anyone wants to try copying these they may be wondering how I managed to make the perfectly circular surround. These are in fact floristry rings which you can buy in various sizes. The problem is however that the material they are made from is non-conductive and will not solder. The only way I could overcome this was to copper foil the entire ring before starting work on the design. It does seem to be quite an effective solution but I would be interested to hear of other people's suggestions.
I have hung them together in bright sunlight underneath my "Beamish Window" where I have to say they look great. Eventually I'm hoping to make the set up to five so watch for more pictures.
